Introduction:
There are so many Nursery, Primary and Secondary (High) schools in Nigeria, and a fair number in every city in Nigeria. On Average, There are about 200 pupils and students in these schools. This Business is about creating an avenue to take students out on Educational Trips across cities, states in the country.
You will agree with me that in our primary and secondary school days, we always looked forward to the days where we would go out together as students to some fancy cities with our pen and paper, taking notes and snapping pictures. This is basically the Idea of a Student Excursion Business that I am selling to you now reading this post.
Like I mentioned in my profile, I have spent more than 5 years researching business opportunities in Nigeria, and I came up with this as a very profitable niche in the Educational business sector. I shared this Idea 3 years ago with an Abuja based business woman, whom I believe is fully into it now. Here is all you need to know about the basics:
How it Works (10 Steps)
1. Locate Unique Educational Tour Sites in your city or state or country
2. Approach Schools
3. Have an agreement with the schools
4. Fix a date
5. Take the pupil/students out for hours/days/weeks depending on your arrangement
6. Bring the pupil/student back safely
7. Get paid
8. Perform Steps 1-7 again for different schools
9. Get paid more.
10. It is this easy
Things to know before setting up Student Excursion Business in Nigeria
Basic knowledge is needed in any sector you wish to establish in else, failure is inevitable. The following must be known before you can establish this business in your city:
- Educational sites around your city, state and outside your state
- You should build solid relationship with school owners
- Study businesses already offering this service and how you can improve on their services.
Requirements, Equipment and Materials Needed
- A Registered Business name or company so as to be taken seriously
- A Standard Coaster Bus or its equivalent (or you can partner with transport companies if you cannot afford bus)
- An Office in a good location to receive customers and attend to enquiries, complaints, etc
- A License/Permit to carry out educational tours in the state (optional, but you can check with your state education board to know if this is a requirement)
- Business Cards, Letter head papers
Capital Requirements
To effectively start the education tour business, here is the breakdown of your capital needs. This might vary depending on some factors:
- Office space: - varies/depends on your city
- Minimum 18 seater Bus: - varies/depends on the bus of interest
- On the Average, measured by my preference, you will not spend beyond less than N900,000 to acquire the two items listed above
Marketing, Advertising and Customer Care
The quickest way to gain ground in this business sector is to:
- Build Relationships - Build a working and active relationship with school owners and principals.
Other ways includes:
- Word of Mouth - Talk to schools, parents, teachers about what you do, and what you can do that your competitors are not doing yet
- Use Business Cards - A school owner/Principal/Headmaster you talk to now may not be interested in what you have but may be tomorrow, so you will need a business card to leave behind with each of your prospective clients so that they can reach you when they require your service.
- Build Testimonials - Any time you take students of a school out on an educational excursion/tour, do not forget to ask the school for a testimonial. This testimonial will help you when you are attempting to get a new school as your client. School owners will be better interested if they know that you have done something similar somewhere else for someone else.
- Offer Unique Tour Sites - Be careful when choosing tour sites. Some schools may be sceptical if your proposed site is too far, or if it is a common place.
- Handle the Pupils / Students with great concern - Do not be too engrossed in activities and planning and forget about the safety of your clients (Pupils/Students). Their safety means more tours in future with you, because quality customer service builds trust in your customers.
Projected Income
Here is an estimated pricing from one excursion trip with a school having students of about 200 with the excursion taking place outside the city/state
- 1 student pays N1,000
- 50 interested students pay 50 * 1,000 = N50,000
- Average of 3 schools in a month = N150,000
- Average Income monthly is N150,000
Here is an estimated pricing for one excursion trip with a school having about 500 students, with the excursion taking place in the city/state
